The Frustration of Mac Users Who Play The Sims 3

Happy Saturday guys, I hope it's been a good one. Unfortunately for me, it hasn't, but we'll get into that later. Today I will be reminiscing about the good, the bad and the ugly of the Sims 3 in honor of the release of the Sims 4 a few months ago which is apparently not very good but I wouldn't know because I'm a Mac user–a.k.a the people E.A don't give a flying poop about.

Pros of being a Mac user with the Sims;

• Macs are generally faster and don't accquire viruses as easy as Windows do.
• They also have a much cleaner layout and it's easier to find things like folders (opinion?)

That's about all I can think of.

Cons;

• When the game doesn't want to work, it doesn't. It crashes, unknown errors occur, patches aren't read, the disc authorization fails, etc. etc. etc.
• No world tool - not able to make worlds // thanks a lot EA for the consideration.
• Not able to use TSR Workshop.
• Harder to make custom content.
• Launcher doesn't work half the time.
• Folders duplicate themselves unhealthily so that it's too much for the computer/game to bear.
• Lots of lag if you have a good amount of content installed.
• Crashes if you don't filter clothing on CAS.
• No right click option or rotation ability on Mac mice, I had to buy an $80 gaming mouse (obviously not necessary, I could have purchased a $10 one at Staples, but...)
• Not able to view captured videos (found later in the Launcher) hence the new Mac updates.
• More cons I'm too frustrated to think of.

So, now to the story of how I became this angry. First of all, when I was finally happy with my game, I accidentally cleared the DCache, a.k.a the place where all your installed content resides, f*cking up my perfect game. After uninstalling and reinstalling everything, I installed all new content. I have recently been playing with a supernatural family. Then, for some reason the Launcher stopped installing content (I was able to select the items I wanted installed and go through the installation process normally but after, the item wouldn't adopt faded overlay and no content would show up in game). Also, my mods folder wouldn't work. Maybe it was because I downloaded mine made already off the internet–but I quickly learned that wasn't the case. Whenever I would try to play, and it didn't matter what content I had in there so I'm sure it wasn't a corrupt package, I would get to the main menu where it would inform me that there was a "Disc Authorization Failure" and to make sure there was a disc inserted. Welp, there was. I removed the mods folder and it worked perfectly fine. I mean my game didn't even lag. But I really wanted those Alesso retextures in my game... so I deleted the old mods folder and made my own with instructions from a website.

I tested Rick's nointro mod and it worked perfectly fine. Then, I though "OOOH IT'S WORKING TIME TO GO CC CRAZY" so I installed about all the Alesso retextures I liked that I had in my game before clearing the DCache, mind you they had never caused my game to become unplayable. Then I tried to play. Hmmm, guess what happened when I got to the main menu? I was sooo upset, I tried to install the nraas NoCD mod. It told me to mess with the info.plist file; well I somehow messed it up and everytime I then tried to open my game and "Unknown Error Occured" message popped up. I've fixed this problem many times before but I don't know how. So keeping in mind that all means of installing CC didn't work, I decided to just uninstall and reinstall everything. The longest process ever, I basically have to prepare to waste my weekend. It takes all day to do this, for me anyway because I bought Supernatural on Amazon.com (the digital download) and I have to download it again and then reinstall. Both take about 2 hours, just on that one expansion pack. The rest take anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes. Well, my uninstaller doesn't work for sh*t and just sits there for hours so I looked up how to manually uninstall. It told me to delete my "The Sims 3" folder and I did. Then I reinstalled and opened the game. Finally, the launcher sat before my eyes! It asked me for an update but I clicked no, figuring it would be better to superpatch it instead. I tried the superpatch but even more bad news; it wouldn't open because my computer's privacy wouldn't support it! At this point I didn't have the energy to try and change that business. I then went to look to see if my Sims 3 folder was back and when I opened the Electronic Arts folder, nothing was there, just how I'd left it before. You obviously can't play without that folder. I tried dragging it to my desktop and back in + launching the game, restarting the computer and finally accepting the offer to update. WELL, it said the patch couldn't be found. I got so frustrated that my mom had to take over and is now wiping the entire computer of everything "Sims". Maybe this will work and I'll be able try again... ughhhhhh.
